Female Hair Replacement

We are seeing more women than ever with female pattern hair loss and it appears to be a problem affecting women of all ages. We were used to treating women of menopausal age affected by hair loss but, now, it is not uncommon to find the condition presenting in those from late teens onwards.

The hair ‘cycle’

Hair usually grows at a rate of 1-2 cm per month

Each hair has a growth phase of 2-6 years

After this the hair ‘rests’ and then falls out

A new hair will start to grow in its place and the ‘cycle’ starts again

This cycle of hair growth continues throughout life

It is harder, perhaps, for women than men to accept losing their hair at any age. The psychological impact of female pattern hair loss can be dramatic – affecting mood and confidence, as well as limiting social interaction.

Around 35% of women will suffer hair loss during their lives and Our Clinics offers both a sensitive consultation process and a wide range of medical and surgical options for dealing with the problem – including hair transplant surgery.

Ongoing research is, year on year, increasing the data available on hair growth and loss – gradually, widening the range and effectiveness of both topical treatments such as Minoxidil and surgical techniques. Hair restoration through hair transplant surgery, in particular, has seen developments in technique that enable expert hair transplant surgeons to replace hair exactly as it grows in nature, resulting in natural-looking new hair growth that is undetectable even under close examination.

Lowering High Frontal Hairlines and Restoring Temporal Hairlines

Occasionally women may suffer from a genetically high hairline or high forehead. Hairlines may also be raised following cosmetic brow lift surgery.

Hair transplant surgery can be used to lower a hairline and give the appearance of a smaller forehead. Temporal hairlines can also be transplanted following face lift surgery, allowing the hair to be worn, once again, in a pulled-back style.

Our Clinics is able to offer advice on both these conditions and assess the appropriateness of hair transplant surgery to lower high frontal hairlines and restore temporal hairlines.

Traction Alopecia

Traction alopecia resulting from years of braiding can permanently damage hair growth. It arises when, over time, the constant weight of the braids causes trauma to the hair follicles, which eventually die. Hence the dual names for this condition – trauma alopecia and traction alopecia.

Hair transplant surgery can effectively restore the hair lost as a result of traction alopecia, provided the donor hair is not, itself, affected by the hair loss. The hair ‘cycle’Hair
